You Need To Read Driven – The This Naked Mind June Book Club Feature

Driven is our This Naked Mind Book Club feature for June 2022. This book by Douglas Brackmann and Randy Kelley profoundly impacted my own understanding of my brain and my motivations. I feel like so many in the This Naked Mind Community could benefit from it.

What if I told you that the same qualities that influenced your relationship with alcohol are behind the success of Olympic athletes, entrepreneurs, and some of the most admired individuals out there today?

It’s all true and Douglas Brackmann sheds light on how our very DNA and the traits we might have found loathsome can actually be used to make us wildly successful.

Driven: Understanding and Harnessing the Genetic Gifts Shared by Entrepreneurs, Navy SEALs, Pro Athletes, and Maybe YOU discusses how certain genetic traits do make us different but how if we learn to use those traits in a way that is beneficial to us rather than seeing those qualities as a negative thing. This is a deep, scientific look at just what makes a person Driven and how best to use that gift.

How To Read This Book

This book might seem completely off base to you. According to the author, only 10% of the world falls in the “Driven” category so even if you do not personally identify with the book, use it to get curious about traits you and others exhibit.

Use the questions below to help guide your thoughts as you’re reading.

Brackmann states “What the world tells you is a disorder may actually be your greatest gift.”

How does that statement relate to your life? What can you reframe from a disorder to a gift right now?

Brackmann believes routine is crucial in a Driven person’s success.

Have you incorporated any positive routines in your life? What impact has that had on you?

Brackmann says – “When you label someone or yourself, you automatically limit or place a limitation on that person or yourself.”

Are there any labels you’ve placed on yourself that are currently limiting you? What would happen if you removed those labels?
