Susan Joy, M.S.

Susan is a Certified Life and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She has a master’s degree in counseling and experience working as a therapist. Susan specializes in coaching women who are experiencing midlife psychological, biological, and social transitions. Dealing with divorce, a newly empty nest, aging parents, and career changes can prove overwhelming and lead women to use alcohol as a strategy to cope. Susan experienced this firsthand as she found herself overdrinking while facing the end of her long marriage and divorce.

Today Susan is alcohol free after finding This Naked Mind and completing the November 2020 Live Alcohol Experiment. She recognizes that many women feel conflicted about their drinking. It is their go-to way to cope with stress, relax, and enjoy the finer things in life. But it is also a source of anxiety, shame, and confusion. In her coaching, Susan creates a judgement free safe space for women to explore their relationship with alcohol or other destructive habits that are preventing them from living their most fulfilled life. She works with both sober-curious women who want to take a short break from alcohol or moderate their drinking, and those who are committed to living alcohol free.

After leaving alcohol behind with the methodology of This Naked Mind, Susan lost thirty pounds and experienced significant relief from the anxiety, depression, and sleep issues associated with menopause. She is passionate about nutrition and health and using the methodology to address her clients’ relationships with both alcohol and food. In addition to her This Naked Mind coaching certification, she has completed a health coaching certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Susan believes that women deserve to find health, peace, clarity, and purpose as they navigate their forties, fifties, and beyond.

Susan lives in a restored century home in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. She has two children, one settled in San Diego, California and one away at college in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her empty nest is run by a smart and quite funny golden retriever named Maggie. Susan loves books, writing, yoga, hiking with Maggie, and all things Peloton.
